New Resources for Teens

NEW YORK – The Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is pleased to announce its newest resource, the Orthodox Christian Teen Survival Guide. In an effort to provide resources for both youth workers and young people, the department felt it was imperative to produce this series on challenging topics for teenagers. Each brochure offers facts and statistics, the church’s response, a Q&A section, and additional resources to help teenagers navigate through tough issues. These one-page handouts are great for starting discussions, GOYA meetings and gatherings, Sunday School, or even your church bookstore.

Available topics include Managing Stress, Peer Pressure, Pornography, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, and Sexual Purity. Additional brochures are currently in development and will be publicized online once they are completed.

Brochures are available for purchase from the Department of Religious Education (800-566-1088) or online at the Orthodox Marketplace www.orthodoxmarketplace.com. They are also available for free download on our website at www.youth.goarch.org.

On August 30, 2010, the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries participated in a Youth Ministry Summit in New Canaan, CT. Representatives included youth workers from several Christian denominations and para-church organizations, such as Young Life, Association of Youth Ministry Educators (AYME), and Pastoral Resources for Youth Ministry Encouragement (PRYME). Many topics were discussed including the development of a charter for youth workers, which would encourage churches to create standardized tools, resources, and principles for employing and empowering a youth worker.
